15 hours before Cult Crafter! Ad that got removed from Reddit! Launch party!
about 1 year ago – Wed, Mar 12, 2025 at 05:10:07 PM

Ahoy!

We are now just under 16 hours away from the launch of Cult Crafter! I'm super nervous about this one, so if you haven't followed, this is your last chance to do so to help us unlock the follower goal of free stickers for all backers! We're not that far from the 100 follower goal, so go go go

Anyway, just three more things:

1) Launch Party!!
I'd like to invite you to the launch party stream March 13th at 10am PT - check it out on Twitch (https://twitch.tv/skeethulhu) or on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/@rickkitagawa666/streams). I'll be going over all of the cards, answering any questions y'all have, and the All-Seeing Oracle might make a guest appearance if we're all lucky.

2) Perks!
Here's your friendly reminder of some perks that are going on with the campaign.
If you're a returning backer (and if you're getting this email, that's you! Thanks!), you will get a free digital zine explaining the lore of the Order of the Dark Wheel, the Abyssal Void, and why there are 14 gods in the game yet the cult's greeting is "All Hail the Seven Who Feed."

Early bird - is a cool $5 off any pledge for the first 48 hours. Campaigns can live or die based on the first few days, so this is my thank you for supporting the campaign early. And yes, this is on top of the $5 off from the retail price of the decks.

3) Rejected Ads!
So I'm experimenting with paid ads, and while most of my ads were approved for Reddit, I got one rejected because "political ads need specific approvals."

I'm actually surprised they wouldn't run this ad, but maybe it's too clearly a jab? Seems like some bot took this way too personal. You be the judge and let me know in the comments below.

Thanks again and see you tomorrow!!!

1.5 Days Until Cult Crafter! New Video!
about 1 year ago – Tue, Mar 11, 2025 at 09:46:33 PM

Howdy y'all!

I can't believe we're almost to launch!

I know with indie games, you might have no idea about how a game is actually played - I know that for most of the board games I buy, I'll have tried it at a friend's or done a deep dive on BoardGameGeek.

With crowdfunding, the best I can do is share with you this YouTube video of an overview of the three card decks, the actions you can take, and a general overview of how the game works.

If you've got any questions, please don't hesitate to drop a comment and ask!

Thanks again,
Rick

4 Days Until Cult Crafter Launches!!
about 1 year ago – Mon, Mar 10, 2025 at 11:32:46 AM

Howdy howdy all,

Hope you're having a great start to your week.

Cult Crafter is 4 days away - we launch on Thursday at 10am PT! Maybe is it three days? I dunno, but it's coming on Thursday!!

Remember, we've got a discount for all pledges in the first 48 hours (automatically applied to your pledge), and also if you're considering the Become A Cultist tier (in which you submit a name and a photo and I paint you in the style of the game), the earlier the pledge, the earlier you get to choose which cultist card will represent you.

In the game, there are 42 cultist cards. 21 that have a single aspect, and 21 that have two aspects.
Of those 21 cultists, there are those worth 1, 3, and 5 tribute (aka victory points). I'll assume that most people are looking for their aspect of choice, and then ideally would want the 5 tribute cultists, but I dunno, you do you!

Regardless, the first person who backs gets first pick from the spreadsheet I've made, so if you especially care about the aspect you get (which determines the art background color - see below), you'll want to make sure you snag those early!

Anyway, I'll be back tomorrow with some more info about the game itself!

Enjoy your Monday and talk to you soon!

Cheers,
Rick

6 Days Until Launch! New Gods, New Poll!
about 1 year ago – Fri, Mar 07, 2025 at 11:21:50 AM

Howdy folks!

Here comes your friendly reminder that Cult Crafter launches in 6 days! AARRHRHRHRHRH!

(that's the sound of a demon thrashing around out there, not me stressing, totally not at all).

Anyway, in the last poll, I shared the Seven Who Feed, the main dark gods of the Order of the Dark Wheel. Each of those demonic entities all had a single demonic aspect to contend with.

Now, I'd like to unveil the seven dual-aspect "gods." I put that in quotes because these creatures are not technically gods in the Order of the Dark Wheel pantheon, but given the fragmented information passed down in the cult, the high level of self-organized branches, zealots who decide to worship whatever they want, and the general monstrous nature of these creatures, they are often mistaken for or referred to as gods.

While you'll have to wait for the zine I'm creating on the lore of the Order of the Dark Wheel for the full backstory of these demonic entities, here's a poll with their names and the illustrations that are going into the card game.

What's your favorite so far?

PS - Friendly reminder that all returning backers will get a digital copy of the zine! So generally you need to have a BackerKit ID associated with a past pledge for this to automate, if you're a past Kickstarter Backer, let me know what your KS ID is and what campaign you've supported me in the past and I'll make sure this one carries over!

Cult Crafter - Battle of Gods poll + cards preview
about 1 year ago – Tue, Mar 04, 2025 at 09:58:49 PM

Howdy everyone!

We're just over a week out from the launch of the Cult Crafter campaign! Wild!

I wanted to share a bit more about the lore of Cult Crafter, as well as introduce some of the cards I've got designed for you.

The game is set in the world of the Order of the Dark Wheel, a demon-worshipping cult that believes if they can summon the Seven Who Feed - the seven ruling gods of the Abyssal Void, then a prophecy will be fulfilled and all life in the universe will be extinguished.

So there are seven demonic aspects in the game that I introduced you to in a previous poll/update:
Bone, Blood, Darkness, Flesh, Madness, Pain, and Rot.

Each of the seven demonic aspects will act in the game like a suit in traditional card games (or think of it like color in Magic: the Gathering or type in Pokemon). Not only will every cultist have an aspect (or two) that they are most drawn to, but also every god has an aspect that they'll buff and two aspects that they'll penalize you for worshipping.

The single-aspect gods are the fabled Seven Who Feed, but given that demons don't all speak our language, and ancient texts are subject to interpretation, there are also seven incredibly powerful entities that the some branches of the cult believe to be gods. These gods have two aspects they buff, but three aspects that will cause penalties. The level of buff is also smaller for these gods to make up for their versatility, and their penalties are also higher, forcing a stricter, yet wider playstyle.

At the beginning of the game, every player will have a single god from the god deck, but they'll have to choose to either build around that god, or use a draw action to pull a new, random god that may or may not be even more aligned with the cult you're building.

So the latest poll I've dropped is an introduction to all of the Seven Who Feed - the true gods of the Order of the Dark Wheel.

Let me know what your favorite is  - this poll will influence which card illustrations makes it into the postcard set that will exist as an add-on to the base game. This postcard set will also make up the pool from which I'm selecting a postcard to send to all backers if we can get the follower count for the campaign over 200 before the launch date (so click that follow button if you're interested!)

Thanks again, and stay tuned for a poll between all the dual aspect gods!

Cheers,
Rick
